{"id":210,"date":"2015-07-05T09:35:51","date_gmt":"2015-07-05T08:35:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.philleigh.org\/?page_id=210"},"modified":"2020-02-24T11:40:27","modified_gmt":"2020-02-24T11:40:27","slug":"cc","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.philleigh.org\/?page_id=210","title":{"rendered":"Community Centre \/ Village Hall"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Community Centre in Philleigh was opened in 2016, after a full (and impressive) renovation program.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-416\" src=\"http:\/\/www.philleigh.org\/site\/uploads\/2015\/07\/philleigh-community-centre-village-hall.png\" alt=\"philleigh community centre village hall\" width=\"600\" height=\"412\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.philleigh.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/philleigh-community-centre-village-hall.png 600w, https:\/\/www.philleigh.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/philleigh-community-centre-village-hall-300x206.png 300w, https:\/\/www.philleigh.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/philleigh-community-centre-village-hall-150x103.png 150w, https:\/\/www.philleigh.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/philleigh-community-centre-village-hall-500x343.png 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Facilities include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Full kitchen<\/li>\n<li>Toilets<\/li>\n<li>Disabled access<\/li>\n<li>Plenty of parking<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The hall is perfect for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Children&#8217;s parties up to 45 guests<\/li>\n<li>AGM&#8217;s and other meetings, with seating for 60<\/li>\n<li>45\/50 people seated at tables<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you&#8217;re interested in booking the hall please call Shirley Pascoe on 01872 580 313 for prices and availability.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>A Quick\u00a0History of Philleigh\u00a0Community Centre<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The building was built in 1859 as a village school.\n<ul>\n<li>The land was given by Sir Charles Lemon (who owned a great deal of land in the parish at the time).<\/li>\n<li>The original school bell is still hanging above the building, but it&#8217;s not possible to ring it!<\/li>\n<li>Philleigh Village School was the first in the county to have it&#8217;s own bus service, bringing pupils from outlying farms and hamlets<\/li>\n<li>But it was also one of the first to be closed in Cornwall (now the parish&#8217;s children go to Gerrans, St Mawes or Tregony primary schools, and Roseland School at Tregony secondary school<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The original covenant for the gift from Sir Charles Lemon stated that the hall was &#8216;for the use of children and adults of labouring, manufacturing and other poor classes in the parish of Philleigh for no other purpose&#8217;. Thankfully the wording has now been weakened, so the hall can be used by everyone!<\/li>\n<li>From 2015 into 2016 the hall was completely renovated with the help of a grant from the National Lottery<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<p><strong>News<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>November&#8217;s Thursday Club had us all making ceramic Christmas Tree <br \/> decorations and Christmas Figurines.
